課程概述

This course covers three major areas: 1) theories of gender as performance, of cross-dressing and transvestism, of actor-audience hermeneutics, 2) conventions of female cross-dressing in traditional Chinese theatre, and 3) examples in Chinese opera adaptations of Shakespeare.  

課程目標
The goal of this course is to combine theoretical and historical approaches in studying female cross-dressing in Chinese opera adaptations of Shakespeare and analyze how various cultures meet and affect one another.  
課程要求
The student needs to complete the weekly reading assignments and bring in topics for discussion. The student needs to submit a term paper of over 3000 words.
